Mangaluru's startup ecosystem is getting a dedicated accelerator, backed by state government funding and run by the city's TiE chapter.
The Karnataka government's Department of Electronics, IT, BT and Science & Technology has approved the K-Combinator Startup Accelerator at WrkWrk in Mangaluru, under its Local Economy Accelerator Programme (LEAP) and the broader Beyond Bengaluru Mission. TiE Mangaluru has been selected to host and drive the programme across the Mangaluru–Udupi region and coastal Karnataka.
Minister for Home, e-Governance, Electronics, IT and BT Priyank Kharge first announced the initiative in June, describing it on social media as an investment of over ₹9.5 crore. TiE Mangaluru founding president Rohith Bhat confirmed at a recent briefing that the grant outlay stands at ₹9.52 crore over five years, of which the first tranche of ₹1.89 crore has already been released to begin implementation.
The accelerator will target startups at the proof-of-concept and minimum viable product stages, offering them structured mentorship, market access, industry linkages and support in becoming investment-ready.
Why Mangaluru
TiE Mangaluru has described the coastal region's technology ecosystem as home to around 15 incubation centres across various colleges, an ecosystem the chapter refers to as the region's "Silicon Beach." According to TiE Mangaluru, many startups that emerge from these incubation centres lack the next level of support they need for marketing and investment once they move past the early idea stage — the gap K-Combinator is designed to close.
Bhat said the model rests on the belief that accelerators should be run by industry bodies rather than government departments alone.

How the Programme Will Work
K-Combinator is powered by TiE Nurture, TiE Global's structured mentoring methodology. Each cohort will include four to six startups, with three cohorts planned every year. Selected founders will go through a 16-week acceleration programme that includes bootcamps, masterclasses, more than 15 mentoring sessions, peer reviews, market and industry connects, and investor-readiness preparation, along with opportunities to showcase their ventures.
TiE Mangaluru vice president Suyog Shetty said two qualifying startups from each cohort will be eligible for a performance-linked grant of ₹10 lakh, without equity dilution, subject to successful completion of the programme and necessary approvals.
TiE Mangaluru president Shyam Prasad Hebbar said the programme gives founders access to TiE's global mentor network as well as its wider investor and industry connections.
