New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) has achieved a record-breaking cargo throughput of 52 million metric tonnes in the financial year 2025, surpassing all previous records by a significant margin.
The port chairman, addressing a press conference at the port headquarters on Tuesday, attributed this achievement to the expansion of berth capacity, modernisation of cargo-handling equipment, and increased POL (Petroleum, Oil and Lubricants) traffic from refineries.
Key Highlights
The Port saw a 14 percent year-on-year growth compared to FY2024. Major cargo contributors included fertiliser imports (6.2 MMT), iron ore exports (4.8 MMT), and container traffic which grew by 22 percent.
Infrastructure investments worth ₹1,200 crore commissioned during the year included two new mechanised berths and a state-of-the-art container scanning facility, officials confirmed.
