Widow of 76, fights back for shelter after GP eviction

Moodabidri: A 76-year-old widow is fighting back seeking justice after she was evicted from her residential premises on November 29, 2016.

Girija Poojary, aged 76, a resident of Kukkadakatte Karikumeru in Tenkamijaru village limits was staying in her residential property for over five years. The local gram panchyath had allotted her a shelter under government sanctioned scheme vide order No. 39/20101-11 dated 25.11.2010.

However, in a swift action the Panchayath Development Officer (PDO) accompanied by GP President Suresh alias Balakrishna and PWD contractor Mohammad Hussain evicted her from her premises without assigning any concrete reason, alleged Girija. GP staff accompanied by others had demolished her shelter in the process that day, she added while addressing the media seeking assistance.

She had then lodged a complaint to Panambur ACP, local zilla panchayath, taluk panchayath and at Moodibidri police station but to no avail.

After running out of options, finally she wrote to the chief minister seeking justice. Secretary at the Chief Minister’s office vide letter CM/231/Rep-Gen/2017 asked the jurisdictional DC to look into matter and settle the issue but she has not seen any action on the ground.

Finally she has lodged a complaint at the local court taking help from advocate Arun Bangera.
