Water at Sasihithlu beach turns black, locals alarmed

Mangaluru: While the tourism department has decided to dedicate Sasihithlu beach exclusively for surfing and develop tourism in the area, locals raised an alarm after the sea water reportedly turned into black colour here on Saturday morning.

It is also gathered that hundreds of dead fish were washed ashore.

The locals who have also complained of a foul smell have blamed a fish meal company that has been discharging certain effluents into the Arabian Sea thereby polluting the beach.

Sasihithlu beach happens to be an ideal location for various surface water sport activities. An international surfing festival was organised at the beach in May earlier this year.
