‘Sponsor a square foot’ initiative to fund psychiatric nursing destitute home

Mangaluru: In a noble gesture, Corrine Rasquinha, founder of NGO 'White Doves' has taken up a project of setting up a psychiatric nursing destitute home, that she says will be a boon to the lesser privileged. To complete this project, Corrine has taken up a unique way of funding the Rs 7.6 crore project.

Corrine has come up with the idea ‘Sponsor a square foot’ at Rs 2,500; she says that it will give an opportunity to everyone to help the needy. The initiative will take off at St Sebastian’s Hall, Bendoor on Tuesday at 6 30 pm.

The 200-bed nursing home will come up at Maroli on 49 cents of land donated by the Bishop of Mangaluru.

Corrine says that she suffered from stage three cancer and acute Hepatitis B about six years back and that it was due to prayers of her well-wishers that she was cured of all her problems.

NGO ‘White Doves’ runs two homes for the destitute in Dakshina Kannada district and has 135 residents picked up from the streets.

The NGO has already received Rs 33 lakh for the project, but has spent more than Rs 1 crore. The District Administration granted license for the project and the foundation stone was laid in February this year.
