Seven children go missing from Mangaluru Bal Mandir; police trace three

Mangaluru: In a brisk operation, the police have brought back three out of seven children who went missing from Mangaluru Bal Mandira at Krishnanagar in Bondel on Sunday afternoon.

Maruthi (12), Chethan (13), Jeevan (13), Arun (17), Mukesh (17), Raju (16), Naveen (13) had left the Bal Mandir by jumping across the compound. However, Kavoor police who plunged into action traced three while the remaining four are yet to be traced. They all hail from Madikeri, Kundapura, Panjimogaru and Kuloor areas.

The reason behind the move of the seven inmates has not been ascertained yet. But, activists working for child rights say that till now, as per the rules only kids up to 14 years were housed here but, recently boys up to 18 years are being given accommodation here, without improving or expanding the infrastructure.

The older inmates may have taken the younger inmates into confidence to take part in the act, which may have been executed either for fun or because they have had complaints against the Bal Mandir.
