Poojary questions timing and purpose of Congress coordination Committee meeting

Mangaluru: Veteran Congress leader Janardhan Poojary questioned the timing and the purpose of Congress coordination Committee meeting in Bengaluru on February 26, when drought loomed large over entire state

Speaking to media in Mangaluru, Poojary wanted to know the reasons behind evading discussion on drought during the meeting and the forces that did not permit it despite its essence.

“The meeting proved that politicos are only concerned about money matters”, said the former central minister, who wanted to know the number of bore wells dug in drought prone regions to counter drinking water problems of the people.

“When Devegowda is weeping , our chief minister is sleeping”, said Poojary taking a jibe at Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for not taking the drought issue seriously. However, Poojary appreciated Devegowda’s efforts in highlighting the issue by taking active part in the recent successful Hassan bandh.

Talking on the diary issue, Poojary wanted to know the quantum of money sent by state BJP to its high command, and in particular, PM Modi’s and state BJP Chief Yeddyurappa’s share. Reacting on HDK’s claims of payments made to BJP high command in two cheques, Poojary dared HDK to declare the details to the press by February 27 evening, failing which HDK can be dragged to jail over hiding valuable information of public interest, he cautioned.

He asked the senior ministers in Congress to relinquish their posts to make way for juniors and remain as advisors.

Considering the Congress and BJP’s “pathetic” political position, he predicted JDS making gains in the ensuing state Assembly elections.

Terming the recent footwear statement by UT Khadar before Kerala CM Vijayan’s visit to the city as most stupid, Poojary asked the state food and civil supplies minister to refresh his knowledge on Indian Constitution, answering a query from a reporter.

When asked by reporters about MLC Ivan D’Souza’s visit to Dharmasthala, Poojary said the chief whip of Congress did not go to swear, instead went to seek forgiveness for all the wrongdoings from the deity at Dharmasthala.
