It was only six months ago that 31-year-old Pan Pan, the world's oldest male panda, was diagnosed with cancer. Early this week, he breathed his last.

He was born in Baoxing County in Sichuan, China, and taken in when only a few months old, and lived out the rest of his life in captivity.

While wild pandas don’t cross 20, Pan Pan, although he lived in a controlled environment, went on to live for about 100 human years. He’s left behind 130 descendants.
