Mangaluru: A musical evening at Forum Fiza Mall was organized by Yenepoya Institute as an awareness campaign for their ‘Cancerthon 2017’, a marathon run against cancer to be conducted on 12 February. On Sunday, 15 January, the band ‘Anonymous’ played several numbers which most of the audience knew very well.
As a part of the silver jubilee celebrations of Yenepoya Dental College, a cancer screening programme are bring jointly organized by Yenepoya Dental College and Yen-Onco Center. On 8 January, a screening was conducted at Pandeshwar for police officials. On the same lines, another screening programme was organized by Yenepoya group at ACP North Subdivision Office at Panambur on January 15 where the police officials and their family members were scanned for cancer.
B H Sripathi Rao, Dean of Yenepoya Dental College, Dr. Ganesh Shenoy HOD of Public Health Dentistry, Police Inspector at Kavoor Police station Nataraj and Police Inspector Panambur Police Station Lokesh inaugurated the programme.
Dr Rohan Shetty an Onco surgeon at Yen Onco Center spoke on general cancer, Dr. Laxminarayan Sonde Assistant Professor of Public Health Dentistry spoke on Oral Cancer, Dr. Rachana Prabhu Reader of Oral Medicine And Radiology spoke on Breast Cancer, Dr. Ashwini Shetty Assistant professor of Anatomy spoke on Cervical cancer.
This awareness talk was then followed by screening for oral, breast and cervical cancer. The talk stressed on the early signs and symptoms of Oral, breast and cervical cancer as well as the significance of its early detection.
