Mohammed Azharuddin urges Govt to build world class Cricket ground in Mangaluru

Mangaluru: This year's edition of Mangalore Premier League (MPL) kicked off by former Indian cricket captain Mohammed Azharuddin on December 17 at NMPT grounds, Panambur in the city.

Inaugurating the event former Indian cricket captain said, Mangaluru requires a world class cricket play ground as the people of coastal city are enthusiastic about cricket. The government should take up initiatives to promote the sports, game activities including cricket by building a world class stadium here.

“Mangaluru has produced well known sports personalities. Therefore, I expect some of the players participating in this mega tournament will get exposure to exhibit their talent before the public. Hard work is the key to success,” he said.

Former captain congratulated the gathering and asked them to turn the event into a mega tournament in the country.  An exhibition match was played after the inaugural session between Organizers XI led by Azharuddin and Tulu Roaring Stars XI led by actor . Tulu cine actors won the match beating Azharuddin’s team. As a part of the entertainment programme, a Russian fire dance was organised after the inaugural session.

The cricket tournament will be held until December 30. Cricket teams, Redhawks Kudla, Team Elegant Moodbidri, Kankanady Knight Riders, Karavali Warriors Panambur, Karkala Gladiators, President Sixers Kundapur, Maestro Titans, Spark Evengers Bolar, Coastal Digest and Surathkal Strikers. United Ullal and Udupi Tigers will take part in the tournament.
