Mangaluru likely to face water crisis; DC suggests water rationing

Mangaluru: Anticipating that the city might have to go through water crisis, the District Administration has asked the Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) and Mangalore Special Economic Zone Ltd. (MSEZ) not to draw water from the AMR dam at Shamboor.

The Deputy Commissioner stated in the order that MSEZ and MRPL would not be allowed to draw water from the AMR dam without his approval. He issued the order after the Mangaluru City Corporation informed that the water level at AMR dam and Thumbe vented dam was falling by 15 cm every day.

The DC stated that the Mangaluru City Corporation had to begin supplying water on alternate days. He added that a meet would be held on Tuesday to discuss the issue.
