Dr Heggade’s cleanliness campaign in religious centres bags overwhelming response

Belthangady: A month ago, Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade had said that all the religious centres of the state would take up cleanliness drive to don a new face before Makara Sankranthi.

Talking about the outstanding response this call received across the state, Sri Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Programme Executive Director Dr H L Majunath said that the programme that took place over the last one month witnessed participating of 7,19,000 volunteers across the state who responded to the call of the Dharmadhikari.

In this campaign a total of 8,045 religious centres were cleaned which included over 200 math, 65 basadis, 12 Masjids and four churches.

He said that Chikkaballapur rules the roost in this drive as over 40,000 devotees have completed cleaning 580 temples. Dakshina Kannada has completed 560 religious centres and Kodagu has completed 486 religious centres. The campaign will be held in Udupi Sri Krishna Temple premises on January 21.

Some of the famous pilgrim centres that were completed during the campaign include Ullal Dargah, Mysuru Chamundeshwari Temple, Kukke Sri Subrahmanya Temple, Hubballi Siddaruda Math etc.
