Renowned scholar, writer and researcher, Dr. B A Vivek Rai inaugurated the convention. Speaking on the occasion former Hampi University Chancellor lauded the efforts of P G R Scindia, Chief Commissioner of Bharat Scouts and Guides (Karnataka) in taking the organisation to greater heights.
Visionaries, service oriented people and those who are people-friendly find Scouts and Guides gratifying and draw immense satisfaction while facing daily challenges, Dr. Rai said.
People associated with Scouts and Guides can solve local problems for people and communities living on the edge by providing basic health, education and shelter, referring to the backward Malekudiya community in the district.
Scouts and Guides can fight parallelly against drug menace and other evils that crush the aspirations of modern youth in early phases of their lives, Dr. Rai said.Invoking Gandhiji’s words in speeches will not bring about change but efforts should be made to follow and live by his principles, he added.
Traffic can be managed by Scouts and Guides which would help them to retain as well as promote their identity in society, Dr. Vivek Rai said. Children must be drawn towards the service oriented Scouts and Guides organisation during early years of their formation to strengthen the force, he felt.
Speaking on the occasion, Srinivas Deshpande, Chief Manager of Karnataka Bank said at least one member from each family must enroll in Scouts and Guides to strengthen the organisation.
A sapling was planted by PGR Scindia on the occasion to commemorate the event. Karnataka Bank donated a water cooler to Scouts and Guides Bhavan to inspire them to carry out its activities in future with renewed Vigour.
Ivan D’Souza, MLC and Chief Whip in the State Assembly who was supposed to formally inaugurate the programme could not make it to the convention.
