City traffic police book 136 cases for defective number plates

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru traffic police conducted a drive on Friday and booked as many as 136 cases against motorists for using defective number plates.

The checking was held at Pumpwell, Hampankatta, M G Road, Nanthoor, Surathkal and Kulur.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) K Tilakchandra said that as per the Motor Vehicles Act, details on the number plate should be legible. They booked motorists who failed to adhere to norms and managed to collect Rs 13,600 fine.

The traffic police on Saturday will check two-wheelers which do not have rear-view mirrors.

It is said that in the past six days, the traffic police issued notices to owners of 159 fish-transporting vehicles for spilling waste water on city roads.
